DJ Shexx (he/him), originally from Andalusia and currently based in Madrid, has been at the forefront of electronic music for exactly 20 years. He started DJing drum and bass in 2006 under the alias N-KRO, as part of his first music collective, Tsunami. Together, they organized several illegal raves and played in clubs across Andalusia. By 2009, he had become a resident DJ at two of Granada’s main clubs, Industrial Copera and Sala El Tren, regularly playing to crowds of around 1,000 people. He later played at festivals and clubs in London, Berlin, Barcelona and Mallorca, among other places. He eventually stopped DJing to pursue a PhD, living along the way in Barcelona, Australia, Berlin, London and Frankfurt, and later a career as a university professor of sociology — while also being a Berghain and KitKat regular for years.
In 2023, he returned with a new alias, Shexx; a new sound, techno; and a new collective: VKANAL, an intentional pun combining Vallekas [VK] and bacchanal. VKANAL is an electronic music collective and party series built around techno, queerness and resistance to the norm (see here for a manifest). At its core, VKANAL is also a socio-political project. Its aim is to create DIY, safe and sex-positive spaces for misfits in a historically marginalized area of Madrid, Vallekas, and to provide a temporary autonomous zone where money will never be a barrier to entry, without compromising on musical quality. Its latest party, in June 2026, attracted 400 people.
